The garden is designed to have plants in bloom from April through September. The Wildflower Garden with its spring ephemerals is usually in bloom in April and the early part of May, the rose garden is at its peak in June and early July, and the Prairie Garden blooms from July through September.

In the Residence, you will tour the public rooms of the house on the first floor the dining room, foyer, living room, governor’s study, garden room, and great room and learn more about the families who have called the Residence home. Outside, the Ohio Heritage Garden covers approximately three acres of gardens that represent the diverse growing regions of the state.

A tour is scheduled to last for 60 minutes. Generally, you will spend about half of your tour in the Residence and the other half in the Ohio Heritage Garden. If you have a greater interest in one aspect of the tour, please let us know in advance and we will make every effort to accommodate your interest.

Absolutely! The Residence is ADA compliant. Many sections of the garden have paths that can easily accommodate a wheelchair. When you schedule your tour, please let us know if you or someone in your group has a mobility challenge and we can plan ahead to make your visit as pleasant as possible.

No. Tuesday is the only day that is set aside for tours and that volunteers are available. The Residence is used for official meetings and events the rest of the week.

The Residence is also the private home of the first family and is therefore not open for tours on evenings and weekends.
